World Sustainability Forum – GLF Africa 2026
6th May 2026 - Nairobi, Kenya

LF Africa 2026: Stewarding Our Rangelands is a high-level hybrid summit held at the CIFOR-ICRAF Campus in Nairobi, coinciding with the UN International Year of Rangelands and Pastoralists. The event focuses on protecting the world's rangelands—which cover 54% of the Earth's land area—from the threats of climate change, conflict, and underinvestment to secure the livelihoods of 1.2 billion people.
GLF Africa 2026 returns with a special edition to bring pastoralists and rangeland ecosystems from the margins of global discourse to the center of climate action. Rangelands are vital landscapes that support 60% of global food production and are essential for tourism, conservation, and biodiversity. However, half of these lands are currently under threat. This summit serves as a global platform to advocate for pastoralist communities, exploring sustainable grazing practices, land rights, and nature-based solutions. By gathering over 8,000 participants in person and online, the forum seeks to mobilize investment and policy support to revitalize these often-forgotten landscapes. The event highlights the crucial role of pastoralists as stewards of the land, ensuring that their traditional knowledge and modern scientific innovations work together to build a resilient future for Africa’s vast drylands.
In alignment with the African Union’s Agenda 2063, this event is most closely affiliated with Goal 7: Environmentally sustainable and climate resilient economies and communities. By focusing on the restoration of rangelands and the preservation of pastoralist livelihoods, the summit directly addresses the AU’s mandate to protect Africa's natural capital and enhance food security through sustainable ecosystem management.
